Welcome Runners!

Unfortunately we will not be hosting the Labor Day Marathon in Van Cortlandt Park in 2013  :-(

The NYC Parks Dept. has imposed constraints on the organizers ability to host races since Christmas 2011 when the NYC Parks Dept. denied the Holiday Marathons a permit to host an event in Van Cortlandt Park on Christmas Day! The Holiday Marathons have not hosted a run in Van Cortlandt Park since Thanksgiving of 2011.We only ask that the NYC Parks Dept. applies the same rules to the Holiday Marathons as it does other race organizers in NYC. Please send a note to Mayor Bloomberg asking him to ensure the NYC Parks has oversight and is not allowed to discriminate against the Holiday Marathons. Mayor Bloomberg can be reached at, http://on.nyc.gov/3CDcV6

The major reason the NYC Parks Dept. is discriminating against the Holiday Marathons is because we are trying to preserve a historic nature trail in the Bronx called the Putnam Trail. The NYC Parks Dept. and the Van Cortlandt Park “Conservancy” wishes to pave asphalt over this entire 1.5 mile trail. Sign the petition to Save the Putnam Trail at,

In 2011 the Holiday Marathons hosted 12 free events in New York Cities Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. The runs attracted over 4000 participants. A great slideshow of the 2011 Easter event can be viewed here.

Are there fluid stations? This will be my first Holiday Marathon (Half for me) and I was just wondering if I needed to bring my own for the race.

Mike, I need to start early to do a 1/2 to a full….how would I record us..?? I am looking at about an 8:30am start? Going to get the Early Birds to go so I don’t want to not show uo as their host but I have church and 2 families that day! Let me know please or e-mail at our group!

Dana, buy a hydration belt and bring stuff to, we all do! In the trail, we dont have fluid stops, only at the end!

I love the idea and WILL BE THERE!
I need only a half marathon in the Bronx and Brooklyn to make it one in all five boroughs. I wish I knew of these last Thanksgiving.

I am looking forward to doing the 10k – if the course is not to muddy, ha guess I am not a true trail runner.

I will be there early. I have a stopwatch so if anyone needs a time I can give it to them.

For everyone who doesn’t know this. I was so impressed by Mike’s work at this event that I call it the best no frills race you can get for the money

  10. Ron Michaels says:

Will there be a 2012 Easter Marathon?

  11. Mike says:

Will this event happen in 2012? If so, what is the date? I’d like to know for training purposes.
